“Did you see the way he looked at me?” Amber stocked glass after glass as her anger mounted. Who was he to treat her like that, like she meant nothing to him?

“For the third time, yes.” Shannon placed a hand over hers. “These will break if you keep slamming them together. And don’t let Cam catch you acting like this. He’s fired staff for less.”

She slowed her movement, not wanting to get fired her first day on the job, and finished stocking the glasses. “I can’t believe he didn’t tell me he knows Alex Dare.” Then again, they’d barely had time for a few conversations before making out like horny teenagers.

“Oh, he more than knows him. Alex is his half brother.”

Amber gasped. “You mean he’s a Dare? That’s why they’re all here?”

Shannon nodded. “And that’s why Adam is acting so weird.”

She didn’t know if that made her feel better or not. Up until he left her wanting, she’d liked this Adam. Kneeling behind the bar, she put away the last glass and stood. When she did, she came face-to-face with the object of her irritation.

“Hey.” Adam grinned and shrugged. Just like that, her annoyance melted into arousal. How did he do that?

“Hey.” Great comeback.

“Can we go somewhere and talk?”

“I’m working.”

“That’s okay,” Shannon offered with a knowing smile. “You go. I got this. Have a great night.”

“Thanks.” Amber forced a smile in return and didn’t argue when Adam led her out of the lodge, into the cold night. She shuddered, blaming the nip in the air and cursing herself for knowing better. It was him. His smell. His presence. “Where are we going?”

“You seem tense.”

That was his answer? “Excuse me?”

“I want to show you something.” His diabolical grin melted away any anger she felt toward him. She remained silent as he pulled her to his truck, opened the door and helped her in, and then climbed behind the wheel. He put it in four-wheel drive and turned to her. “You ready?”

“For what?”

“You’ll see.” Instead of heading down the gravel drive, he turned toward the hills. She held on for dear life as he slowly climbed the hillside, avoiding trees and bouncing over rocks. Each jolt slammed into her. Instead of it hurting, for some reason it awakened her body. They hit a rock and she sucked in a breath as her nipples puckered. A quick turn sent another jolt rocking her system, heating her.

By the time they reached the top, her panties were so wet she feared he’d be able to smell her arousal. She could. He parked the truck and turned to her. “Stay put. I’ll be right back.” He jumped out and opened the back door, grabbed a handful of blankets, and jumped into the bed of the truck. After several minutes, he appeared at her door and opened it, offering his hand.

She took it and glanced into the back of the truck as they passed. He’d spread a mountain of blankets, covering the entire eight-foot bed. He lifted her onto the tailgate before joining her, kicking off his boots and stretching out on the blankets.
